FAQ

What does a typical appointment look like?

Each appointment you have will be one-on-one with the same therapist.  Your evaluation appointment may take anywhere between 60-90 minutes, and follow-up treatment sessions are about 45-60 minutes.  Each session you will be reassessed, and have a variety of treatments including manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, and patient education to further your improvements at home.

Do I need a referral from my Doctor or Provider?

No!  Both North and South Carolina have “direct access”, meaning that you do not need a referral to get started with physical therapy.  This not only saves time and money, but you can avoid unnecessary testing and medications by seeing a specialist (me!) first.  After your first visit, a write up with a “plan of care” will be sent to your provider of choice so that everyone on your medical team is aware of your treatment path.

How many visits will it take?

This varies greatly from person to person, depending on why you are attending pelvic floor PT, how long you have been experiencing your symptoms, and potential barriers that will play a role in your recovery.  Most of the time, you will see your therapist one time a week for a few weeks as you start your program, and then work towards coming in every 2 to 3 weeks as you improve.  Once you have reached your goals that we set together at your evaluation, we like to do a “trial discharge” where you return to all your former activity for a period of up to one month to assess for any deficits that may be lingering.  Most of the time this “last session” is a virtual check-in session.

Do you have a private treatment room?

Yes!  All of your sessions will be performed in a private treatment room (or your own home!) For exercise demonstration or specific movement assessment we may move to a larger space or hallway to have more room, but you will be back in your clothes for this.
